When you travel

« Short on resources? Call us. At the Clinique Santé-voyage (Travel Health Clinic) of the Fondation du CHUM we can help you. »
Is something going wrong with your trip? Are you showing symptoms of illness or in the middle of an emergency half a world away from home? Are you worried or need answers to questions about your health or medications? Wherever you are on earth, we’re with you...ready to help you travel the healthy way so you can come home safe and sound.
Here are a few important travel tips from the Clinique Santé-voyage de la Fondation du CHUM:
- Keep your immunization booklet, vaccination certificates and contact information for your travel health experts with you at all times.
- Keep your travel insurance company contact information with you at all times.
- Protect yourself against insects and sunlight – follow the recommendations of your travel health experts.
- Protect yourself against travellers’ diarrhea (also known as “turista”). Be careful and follow recommendations from your health experts about what you eat and drink.
- If you’re going to a region where there’s a risk of malaria, make absolutely sure you take the medications prescribed by your expert travel health physician.
- Watch out for dangers. Unstable conditions or troubles in some developing countries contribute to criminal activity, which targets foreigners more often than others.
- Protect yourself against sexually transmissible diseases such as gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B and AIDS by using a condom if you engage in sexual relations.
- Keep health information from Canadian consular services with you at all times – especially the booklet “Bon Voyage, But…”
