Travel advice
Nancy Lyons, Nurse
Assistant Director
The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends that every traveller going abroad should consult a travel health specialist.
Before you leave, during your time abroad or after you come back, you’ll probably have more questions than you expected. Most people do. In the “Frequently asked questions” section that follows we’ve listed the questions people most often ask the experts on our travel health team. If you can’t find the answers or advice you need, please call the Clinique Santé-voyage de la Fondation du CHUM – or come and see us today. If you have any question, we’ll find the answers.
Travel the healthy way:
The Public Health Agency of Canada and the Institut national de santé publique du Québec recommend that all travellers consult a travel health professional before going abroad.
It’s always a good idea to ask the experts at the Clinique Santé-voyage de la Fondation du CHUM and get the benefit of their advice before you leave. Our clinic is the best possible place to:
- Find out which vaccines you ought to have and the right time to get your recommended shots.
- Get the reassurance of having consulted real experts who know what advice you’ll need, based on your age and present state of health, or the details of the trip you’ve planned.
- Learn about the health risks you may be exposed to during your trip and what steps you should take to prevent illness.
- Find out about diseases that may be all but extinct in Canada but are still common in other regions of the world, so you can make sure you’ll be coming home in good health.
- Support the Fondation du CHUM and its mission – since all profits from the Clinique Santé-voyage go directly to the Foundation.
Ideally, you should visit the Clinic 6 to 8 weeks before your departure date. You can make an appointment, or simply come and see us. Remember, it’s your health. “Better late than never” is the rule to follow.
