Travel-Health symposium at the Fondation du CHUM

Travel-Health symposium at the Fondation du CHUM

This past September 29 and 30, over 100 specialists in travel health from across Québec met at the Bonsecours Market, brought together by a desire to share their experience and to learn.

For the second year in a row, the Clinique Santé-voyage of the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) sponsored this symposium on health for travelers. Its goal was to promote ongoing vigilance in good travel healthcare practice.

Two professional development workshops on yellow fever and malaria were held along with conferences on a variety of topics, among which GeoSentinel, an international group, the new meningitis B vaccine and schistosomiasis. Also on the program, the theme of pregnant women and travel was treated by Dr Danielle Perrault, RDI health columnist.

The staff of the Clinique Santé-voyage de la Fondation du CHUM was gratified by the success of the symposium. Jo-Anne Hudon Duchesne, the director of clinical services, explained the need for such an event: “Travel health medicine constantly provides us with challenges. A specialized field that is stimulating, it is undergoing rapid development in terms of scientific knowledge. As a result, to be effective the physician in travel health must stay abreast of the latest science in the field and avail himself of the most up-to-date resources. This symposium represented an ideal opportunity to share such knowledge.”
