The anti-flu vaccination campaign is underway!

Montreal, October 11, 2011 – The Clinique Santé-voyage de la Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) is launching its seasonal flu vaccination campaign. The vaccine is, in fact, available at present and nurses from the Clinic have begun, this week, to provide vaccinations for the population at 1001 Saint Denis Street, 6th floor.
The seasonal flu is a highly contagious infection of the respiratory tract, also known as influenza. Getting vaccinated strengthens the immune system and enables you to take care of your health and that of those close to you. Furthermore, the vaccine is safe and effective. It cannot carry the disease, because it is not a living virus vaccine.
In order to make people aware of the importance of getting vaccinated, the Clinique Santé-voyage de la Fondation du CHUM has joined forces with the l’Association pulmonaire du Québec which sponsored a free vaccination clinic at Montreal’s Place Ville-Marie from October 5 to 7. This clinic especially targeted professionals 18 to 29 years of age who too often underestimate the benefits and the necessity of being vaccinated both for themselves and for others.
To date, the seasonal flu remains the main cause of absenteeism from work from November through April. Last year 37.4 % of Canadians received the vaccine against influenza, while 26.6% of Quebecers took advantage of it.
“The flu leads to the death of 2000 to 8000 Canadians each year. Vaccination is the best means of protection against the complications linked to influenza,” said Jo-Anne Hudon Duchesne, director of clinical services for the Fondation du CHUM.
Let’s make this year a real success!
